A little bit about me

CWpic.jpg

I have always been passionate about science and have spent my career working in a range of science-related fields.  Having attained ‘A’-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, I graduated university with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology with Toxicology and then completed a PhD in neuroimmunology.

Before training as a science teacher in 2016, I spent several years working as a post-doctoral researcher and also as a Clinical Trial Assistant working on clinical trials within the NHS.  I feel incredibly lucky to be able to bring this experience to the classroom and to give my students a valuable first-hand perspective of working as a scientist.

About Me: About Me

My Approach

I believe that science is accessible to everyone.  I always try to make my lessons engaging by showing students how science relates to our everyday life and using relevant examples and interesting stories.  My approach is patient and encouraging and I focus on building confidence and putting my students at ease so they feel they can ask anything and are not afraid to say they want to go over things again, if needed.  I believe that making mistakes is how we learn, and the best learning happens when we challenge ourselves.

I can break down complex information and provide scaffolding so that students are able to access the high-level content that is required of them in the current GCSE specifications.  I can also provide tuition on exam technique, so you know what the examiners are looking for in your answers and the keywords required.

I will work with you to discuss what you want to achieve from the tutoring and identify areas for improvement to create an individual learning plan for each student.  I also provide a summary after each session detailing what we have covered, any keywords/exam pointers and any suggested further reading.
